A Customized Approach to Test Prep Classes

In addition to our private tutoring and test prep, CATES provides classes for small groups of students who prefer to learn in a collaborative environment, at a reduced cost. Classes consist of two to five students, are led by one of our expert tutors, and take place at the CATES offices in Manhattan and Scarsdale.

Like all of our private tutoring and test prep programs, test prep classes begin with a diagnostic test, which allows us to build a profile of each student, and provides a baseline against which to measure progress. Students are grouped with others who have similar strengths and weaknesses, so that the classes can be customized to meet their collective needs. In addition, the tutor leading the class organizes the time to ensure that personalized strategies are created for each individual student. Regular mock tests give students opportunities to apply their new skills and strategies, and allow the class leader to adapt the class to the students’ changing needs. We first began offering classes at our Chelsea office in New York City, which was convenient to students in NYC neighborhoods like the Upper West Side, Upper East Side, Chelsea and the Village, but soon expanded to other locations in order to better serve our clients in Westchester, Brooklyn and Long Island.

Currently, CATES schedules regular test prep classes in New York City and Westchester in the fall and spring for students preparing for the SAT I, SAT II Subject Tests, and ACT. In the summer, CATES offers similar classes in Manhattan, Westchester and Brooklyn in an “intensive” format, which are condensed over a shorter-period of time, as opposed to the school-year classes, which extend over several months.

For those students who excel in a small group format, and wish to maximize their budget, our group test prep classes are a perfect solution. Students who have taken one of our classes receive discounts on future one-on-one, private tutoring sessions, should they choose to work with us privately.
