200521845-001Don’t Fret your Freshman Year

For now there are many decisions that loom in your future.  Let them be in the future.  Take in the massive change that’s already happening to you, just as a Freshman in a new school, having new experiences and learning new things.  Mind you, this is not an excuse to not work, to not plan, to not make something of the year, but try and take some time to enjoy and soak in what is happening around you.  Actually, taking that time to gauge all that college life has to offer both academically and socially will be of great help when you make decisions on your future.

Typically, you won’t need to decide your major for another year.  That buys you some time.  Time to figure out what your life path might be.  Time to find out if you want to move on to grad school or law school.  Time to begin to think about what you want to gain from your time at college. (more…)

Pizza and Breadsticks: Buyer Beware. Both these things are delicious, but be careful, especially late at night when you’re out with friends or studying into the wee hours. Don’t Let a Bad Decision Wreck a Whole Day (or Week). If you and your best friend decide that what you need at midnight is waffles with whipped cream and strawberries from the 24-hour diner, and you wake up the next day feeling remorseful, just put it behind you. Don’t let the next day turn into either a punishing gym marathon or a slippery slope of “well, I already ate that, I might as well have pizza AND breadsticks for lunch and make a day of it.” That happened, it was probably pretty enjoyable, and one meal couldn’t possibly have made an appreciable difference in your weight. That was last night, this is now, so go back to trying to make healthy decisions, just like you did before your midnight breakfast. (more…)
