The Become a Tutor Page

Welcome Prospective Tutor! Well, we at least know you’re pretty smart, because you’re interested in working with CATES, an exciting and expanding company which prizes an individual’s unique talent and whose job description is to provide people with the tools and resources they need to transform their lives.

CATES is a premiere tutoring company, and as such, we have very high standards for any CATES tutor:

First, each tutor must have completed a bachelor’s degree.

Second, each tutor must attain an acceptable score on a free mock test. While all of our tutors are versatile and often handle many facets of the CATES process, we have a very strong focus on standardized test prep. Tutors are required to score in the 99th percentile on any given test in order to tutor it (ie. AT LEAST 750+ on EVERY section of the SAT). Most students initially seek tutors for the standard SAT I, so we recommend you prepare to take this test, unless you only want to specialize in an advanced subject. When you are ready to put your best foot forward, you should register to take a free mock test, available almost every weekend (please write "Prospective Tutor" in the "notes" section). This test acts as an assessment for the majority of our new hires (and it’s not so bad to take a refresher course in the stress of standardized test taking before you have to empathize with your new students!).

Third, after you register, email a cover letter and resume to hiring@catestutoring.com.  We want to know about you, and not just the smart stuff! While tutors need to be able to handle the academic rigors of the test prep process, they also need to be well-rounded individuals capable of becoming personally invested in their student’s success.

We look forward to learning more about you. And thanks for your interest in CATES!
